Objective

The student can solve pressure loss calculations. The student knows how to choose correct pump or and blower for the process. Student will be familiar with heat exchangers.

Content

-Reynolds number, laminar, transient and turbulent flow
-Calculation of pressure loss
-Pumps and blowers characteristics
-Pipings and pressure loss
-External flow, drag and lift
-Basics of Heat exchangers

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student can solve simple pressure loss calculations. The student knows the basics of heat exchangers.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is familiar with a different kind of pumps and blowers and knows affinity laws. The student is able to calculate heat exchanger related problems.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can calculate simple pressure loss in a piping system and choose correct pump or blower for it. The student can calculate heat exchanger related problems.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student can solve simple pressure loss calculations. The student knows the basics of heat exchangers.

Qualifications

The student knows the laws of thermodynamics and understands the limitations of the laws of thermodynamics. The student can do an energy analysis for the system. The student understands the basics of fluid mechanics.
