Objective

On completion of the course, the student will be familiar with the application areas of hydraulics and pneumatics.
The student will recognize the usual hydraulic and pneumatic components from the schemes and know how they work.
The student will be able to design and assemble trivial hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

1. Basic laws of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics
2. Hydraulic power transmission
3. Hydraulic components and their operation principles
4. Designing hydraulic systems
5. Maintenance and service of hydraulic systems
6. Production of compressed air and gas laws
7. Application areas of pneumatics
8. Pneumatic components and their working principle
9. Designing pneumatic systems

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student recognizes the usual hydraulic and pneumatic components.
The student is able to draw hydraulic scheme according to given requirements.
The student is familiar with the mandatory requirements for the proper operation of a system.
The student knows the basics of compressed air production.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to evaluate the suitability of hydraulic or pneumatic transmission for a certain application.
The student can recognize the usual hydraulic and pneumatic components used in the hydraulic schemes, and knows how they work.
The student is able to draw simple pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams.
The student is able to dimension the actuators according to given requirements.
The student knows what are the usual service and maintenance targets.
The student is able to solve a simple sequential pneumatic system.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to compare the suitability of different power transmission systems for an application.
The student understands the interdependence of pressure and volume flow, and is able to do calculations with them.
The student is able to understand the function of a system and its components on the basis of its hydraulic and pneumatic scheme.
The student knows the location of the service points and understands the need for regular service and maintenance.
The student is able to compare different control methods for hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
The student can solve sequential pneumatic systems and apply the solution to electrical control of pneumatic systems also.
The student is able to make a simple logic control for a pneumatic system.
