Objective

On completion of the course the student has an overall understanding of the factors influencing indoor climate, ways of controlling them, ventilation systems and their role in the construction project.
The student will be familiar with air conditioning systems for residential buildings and public spaces, the basic processes of handling air flow, the concepts and definitions of ventilation and air conditioning, and also the rules and regulations, instructions and standards governing ventilation systems and equipment.
The student has the necessary skills to design the ventilation system of a single-family house.

Content

Indoor climate factors and quality classification
Factors influencing the indoor climate and the related quality classifications

Air-conditioning systems for offices and public spaces
Calculating the cooling load of an office room
Basic processes of air conditioning in an H-x diagram
Ventilation duct system, its components and design
Energy efficiency and noise
Air distribution and air distribution equipment
Fire safety and the purity of indoor air

Evaluation scale

0-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student can determine the optimal air flow in the ventilation system of a single family house, and select the ventilation device, duct sizes and terminal devices.
The student can describe the main requirements of a single-family house ventilation system.
The student can to explain the concepts of humidity and enthalpy, and to define the dew point.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student can make an overall plan of the ventilation system for a single-family house, including noise reduction solutions and insulation.
The student can explain the factors affecting the cooling load of an office room and the principles of air-conditioning in office buildings.
The student can perform basic calculations related to sound engineering.
The student can determine the basic processes of air conditioning using an h-x diagram.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student can compare different solutions from the point of view of energy consumption, smooth operation and maintenance, and can independently plan the ventilation system of a single-family house.
