Objective

On completion of the course, the student has an overall understanding of the measurements related to HVAC systems and how the results are presented.
The student can perform some basic HVAC measurements and assess the accuracy of the results.
The student is aware of the dangers and environmental considerations related to performing the measurements, and can take them into account when planning the measurements.
The student can use different measuring techniques to assess and adjust HVAC systems.
The student is aware of possible sources of error in the
measurements and can use standardised ways of measurement.

Content

The fundamental measurements in HVAC engineering: temperature, flow, indoor air quality, air currents
Basic adjustment of HVAC systems
Estimating the reliability of the measurements
Safe operation on construction sites and in the laboratory
Using standards and measuring instructions in systematic measurement.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student participates in all measurement taking and adjustment exercises, completes the given pre-assignments, prepares
acceptable measurement reports and passes the laboratory exam.
The student has an overall understanding of the basic HVAC measurements and adjustments.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student can explain the limits and possible sources of error related to different methods of taking measurements, and can produce more complex measurement reports.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student shows initiative in measurement taking and creates measurement reports which show a thorough examination of methods and results.
The student can apply different measurement techniques in assessing the properties of an HVAC system.
The student is aware of possible sources of error in the
measurements and can use standardised ways of measurement.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student participates in all measurement taking and adjustment exercises, completes the given pre-assignments, prepares
acceptable measurement reports and passes the laboratory exam.
The student has an overall understanding of the basic HVAC measurements and adjustments.
