Objective

On completion of the course the student will be able to use the basic vocabulary and structures and some idiomatic expressions to cope with everyday communication situations. In familiar contexts, he or she will be able to deal with routine tasks, participate in conversations, write short texts and understand simple newspaper texts with the aid of dictionary. The student’s communication skills will correspond to the skill level A2 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF).

Content

- oral and written communication in everyday contexts: various groups and work environments
- new grammatical structures, for example passive voice and other characteristic structures of written language
- key characteristics of formal and informal style

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to
- identify basic features of communication in different kinds of groups and in working life
- identify structures characteristic of written language
- identify some features of formal and informal style

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to
- understand the main points of simple communication in different kinds of groups and in working life in everyday contexts
- apply simple and familiar grammatical structures characteristic of written language following given instructions
- apply core features of formal and informal style following given instructions

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to
- participate in the communication of different kinds of groups and in working life with the help of the communication partner
- compose simple working-life related texts, for example a CV, following given instructions
- apply the structures he or she has learnt to new expressions and texts
- apply basic features of formal and informal style
