Objective

Students understand aging as a social and societal phenomenon, and can apply multidisciplinary evidence-based information in gerontological nursing.

Students are familiar with the most common diseases and health risks related to old age.

Students can evaluate the normal aging process and the health risks related to old age, as well as advance the health of the elderly.

Students understand the value base of social and health care, as well as the process of ethical decision-making. Students can apply these skills in gerontological nursing.

Students are familiar with the most common memory disorders and are able to encounter and treat patients with memory disorders.

Students can advance and evaluate the functionality of the elderly by utilizing their resources in diverse operational environments.

• Decrees, guidelines and laws that direct the care of the elderly
• The most common diseases and health risks of the elderly
• Pharmacological treatment of the elderly
• Advancing the health of the elderly
• Ethics in gerontological nursing
• Treatment of a memory disorder patient
• Cooperation with the family of a memory disorder patient
• Evaluating the functionality and resources of the memory disorder patient and family members by utilizing different methods
• Treatment and service plan
