Objective

Students
- understand the significance of ageing
- know how to plan, implement and evaluate nursing reinforcing the health and functional capacity of the elderly
- evaluate risk factors related to health, living conditions and current situation in life of the elderly as well as support them in the use of services available
- are able to cooperate with the elderly and their next of kin/significant others and make decisions to promote the health of the elderly as well as to safeguard valuable life for them
- are able to implement home health care
- can implement terminally-ill and long-term patient’s palliative care and support the patient’s significant others.

Changes related to ageing
Central features of gerontological patients in acute and long-term care
Pharmacotherapy of gerontological patients
Rehabilitative approach, evaluation of functional capacity and resources and their support

The student confirms his/her participation in the course by being present at the beginning of the first lesson or by agreeing on it with the teacher in other ways.
