Students
- are familiar with the research process and the principles of development work based on research

- understand the justification for methods and instruments used in development work

The student should participate in the first lesson of the course because the teacher presents the teacher presents the objectives, contents, modes of study, exam and re-exams, and assessment criteria of the course.

Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer; for example, by returning the first course assignment. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.

Exam schedules

The degree-specific learning task must be saved to the Tasks folder by 4.12.2019. The folder will then close.
The exam will be held on 11.12.2019 at 16.45-18.15. The extra time, for students with permission for extra time, is 18.00-18.15.
They can be carried out only in the next re-take of the exams: SU2020 (25.2.202002) and SU202004 (21.4.2020) . The entire exam area will be carried out in the resits.
The student proves his/her identity to the teacher with an official identity card while returning his/her exam answer.

SPSS WORKSHOP

SPSS workshop 1 is independent part, SPSS workshop 2 should preferably be carried out in IT
After workshops student:
• is able to create an observation matrix with SPSS software (independent voluntary)
• understand link between the research questions and statistical analysis methods
• be able to describe observational data and links between variables by tables, statistics and charts
• is able to move the tables and SPSS pictures to word
• manages the interpretation of the results and a quantitative reporting principles
• understand the connection between the research questions, the questionnaire issues and the observation matrix of variables
• understand the basic principles of statistical testing (Chi-square test)
• is familiar with the reliability, validity and ethics evaluation criteria of the quantitative research
Prerequisites and co-requisites:
Passing the next courses is a prerequisite for a course :
• Learning Skills in Nursing and Health Care and Becoming a Health Care Professional
• Methods for Research and Development Work must be passed before starting Planning of the Thesis Work.
The grade of Methods for Research and Development Work is selection criteria for getting into Thesis Work.

Assessment methods and criteria

A separate framework for evaluation is used. The evaluation of the study unit emphasizes knowledge base and ethical approach as well as cooperation in particular.
The numerical grade (5-1) of the course is determined by the weighted average of the exam (Methods for Research and Development Work 3 cr and English 2 cr). In addition, the student must have successfully completed a degree-specific workshop and a workshop of quantitative research methods as well as the workshop assignments (passed/failed). Professional English: Learning assignments and an exam. It is obligatory to attend the English classes and take part in the activities.
The entire exam area will be carried out in the resits.
In order to achieve the objectives the presence is required in degree-specific workshops.
The learning assignments must be sent by closing date. Belated learning assignments will be sent by closing date of the next course.
Evaluation of the Methods for Research and Development Work (methods section) exam
Total score of the exam (%) converting to the grade of the exam (5-0):
100-90 % -> 5
80-89 % -> 4
70-79 % -> 3
60-69 % -> 2
50-59 % -> 1
< 50 % -> 0.

The analysis of qualitative research article must be saved to: Oma/ SX00BN74-3111 Tutkimus- ja kehitystyön menetelmät/Tehtävät/Tutkintokohtainen työpajatehtävä by 7.12.2019 at the latest. After that, the return folder will close and students will not be able to upload their papers for evaluation. The tasks will be accepted the next time the course is completed.

A failed course implementation includes two opportunities to retake the exam and a passed
implementation includes one opportunity to raise the grade at places and dates specified for
the course. The same assessment criteria and principles are followed in retakes and attempts
to raise grades as those observed during the course performance. The opportunity to retake
