Objective

Students will promote old people’s living at home and care provided by families. Students will assess the service needs of their homecare clients and their family caregivers. They will learn about the multi-professional networks of family care and homecare and implement the services, methods and means of support for living at home needed by the elderly and their family. They will evaluate the requirements for successful family caregiving and homecare and its significance to the varied life situations of the elderly and their loved ones. Students will understand the possibilities of family care as part of the services for living at home. They will enable the participation of the elderly and their caregivers in the development and implementation of their services.
Students will recognise the importance of community for the wellbeing of the elderly. They will apply the methods of community and family work to the strengthening of the resources of the elderly and their family and loved ones. Students will recognise the significance of the combined efforts of volunteers and the elderly.
Students will understand the basics and concepts of multicultural elderly care. They will recognise the impact of old people’s different cultural backgrounds on their work. They will evaluate and take into account the concerns related to the integration, adaptation and life situations of elderly immigrants.

Content

Project work. Family care and homecare to empower the elderly to live at home. Objectives, quality, legislation and services of homecare and family care. Service and nursing plans. Home environments for the memory-impaired. Basics of community, network and family work. Basics of volunteer activity. Multiculturalism in elderly care. Special elderly care needs of elderly immigrants. Work placement in a home environment (7 credits). Self-evaluation of professional skills and development.

- The student's professional level is insufficient to be an expert
- The student is not acting in accordance with his training and guidance
