Objective

Students will identify and know how to assess the significance of memory disorders to a person’s world of experience and to the improvement of functional capacity and rehabilitation. They will be able to recognise persons with memory disorder as well as the needs of their family and significant others and support them in their coping. Students will become familiar with the basic rehabilitation methods for memory disorders and implement holistic rehabilitation processes. They will encourage opportunities for independent living and the possibility for the elderly people’s active participation in community.

Content

Identification, treatment and follow-up of memory disorders. The effects of memory disorders on human behaviour and functional capacity. Encountering persons with memory disorders and special features of interaction. Principal methods of supporting functional capacity, promoting rehabilitation and caring for persons with memory disorders. Behavioral disorders related to memory disorders, their treatment and drug-free care. Nutrition. Tools for measuring functional capacity (MMSE, CERAD). Basics of validation methods. Special needs of working-age people with memory disorders. Care and service procedure of persons with memory disorders; supporting their family members. The rights of persons with memory disorders.
