Objective

Students
- have working knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
- can plan, implement and evaluate safe pharmacotherapy as members of multiprofessional teams
- are proficient in the dosage calculations required in the administration of medication and infusions
- can educate clients/patients in pharmacotherapy, encourage their commitment to it and self-care embracing health promotion.

Organization, regulation and supervision regarding pharmacotherapy
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Dosage calculations
Safe medication process and patient education
Use of Pharmaca Fennica and pharmaceutical database
Basics of safe parenteral infusions

Exam schedules

Final exam includes pharmacology 1 and pharmacotherapy exam.
Drug calculation exam is held separately.
Retakes (2 chances) will be announced during the course.
Please notice that pharmacology and pharmacotherapy exam are evaluated as one. Failing one part will automatically lead to failing the entire exam.

Completion alternatives

Pharmacotherapy and drug calculation theory can be studied by web course for students, who have previous studies from pharmacotherapy. Attendance in contact teaching is still highly recommeded.
NOTE! PARTICIPATION ON THE ORIENTATION IS COMPULSORY!

Further information

Pharmacotherapy includes pharmacotherapy theory and clinical laboratory, drug calculation and two lessons about pharmacology. Pharmacotherapy and Pharmacology are included in final exam. Drug calculation exam is done during drug calculation theory. Participating the first Orientation lesson is obligatory and is requirement for participation for the course. Theory lessons include active participation in face to face learning.
Clinical laboratory lessons are obligatory and the possible learning tasks concerning the lesson subject must be returned in time before lessons. During clinical laboratory lessons the students must work aseptically and actively fullfilling patient safety requirements.
