Objective

Students describe the most common illnesses and problems resulting in the need for upper limb or trunk orthoses as well as the solutions they offer. Students are familiar with a variety of upper limb and trunk orthoses and their intended use. Students assess the structural and functional damages on client’s functional capacity as well as are able to make decisions on the assistive device based on their professional knowledge. They are proficient in the measurements of the most common upper limb and trunk orthoses and the principles of fitting. Students deepen their knowledge required in the assessment process of assistive devices. To find out the need for the orthosis, students interview, assess and analyze their client. Students are familiar with the most significant actors in the field and their range of products. Students learn to fit the product and are able to provide education and instruct the client on the use of the orthosis. Students compare the functional starting point with the end-product from professional viewpoints.
