Objective
The student understands the basics of organic chemistry as well as the tendency of organic materials to be damaged by both microbial and pesticides and animals.
The student learns to identify the insects and the damage they cause. The student learns to observe the mold in organic materials and learns about the growth factors of the molds and their damage. The student understands the impact of environmental conditions among others for mold growth.
The student becomes acquainted with the concept of preventative conservation as part of the management of cultural heritage. The student becomes acquainted with preventative conservation measures and methods of influencing the prevention of biological and microbiological damage.
Content
The concept of microbiology and organic chemistry review. Molds, pests and insects in museum. Pests management, preventive conservation and collection care.

The student has had inadequate involvement.
Activity in lectures and assignments has been weak and the student has had difficulties in teamwork. The student has achieved the objectives of the course only minimally. The level of information received is weak and the tasks of the course show that the topic has not been addressed. The student does not manage concepts and terms related to course content.
The student is not fully able to perceive the basic ideas of the topic and the problem solving related to the topic and the application of the theory to practice is incomplete.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student has taken actively part in teaching sessions and projects and his/her activity on the course has been good and his/her studies have proceeded consistently. The student acts flexibly as a group member.
The student understand the basic topics of the course and is able to apply the theoretical studies to practical work. The reasoning of the rehearsal tasks is valid and the student understands the causes and effects of one's choices in tasks.
The student works independently but there is still some need for further guidance from the teacher. The student has given enough attention for the subject and has an overall understanding of the subject.

The student has achieved the course objectives fully.
The student has actively and constructively participated in the teaching and has been active as a member of the group and encourages teamwork.
The student understands the subjects studied in the course accurately and is able to apply his / her knowledge in accordance with the requirements of his / her professional field. The reasoning in the rehearsal tasks is professional and the student can validate the causes and effects of his/her choices.
Work has been sufficiently independent. Students master the whole both theoretically and in practice.

Further information
Fulfilment of the cource includes lectures, laboratory works, team works, independent written excercises and excursions outside the school building.
Evaluation is based on attendance and active participation. Minimum attendance is 80 % and study excercises have to approved.
