Objective

The student is able to act as a member of an ensemble and gains experience in practical collaboration and professional-level rehearsing and performing situations. The student is able to play or sing different styles of R&B music and his own role in different ensemble combinations as an accompanist and as a soloist. The student is able to play the basic repertoire of R&B music from different eras by heart. The student is able to be responsible member of the group.

The student develops their interaction skills and is able to reflect on their own and other students’ work and to express themselves verbally and in writing. The student is able to read and write music notation and knows the basics of R&B improvisation.

Musiikin tutkinto?Rhythm Blues Projektin sisältöä 2019 Laajuus: 5 op. (WS + Ensemble)
Vuosikymmenet: 1950, 1960 ja 1970
Tyypillisiä piirteitä R&B tyyliselle ohjelmistolle: - Blues tonaliteetti ja äänenväri?- Soolot ja improvisointi?- Afro-amerikkalainen rytmiikka
- Tanssittavuus & rytminen jatkumo
WORK SHOP: 3 op.
Kontaktiopetus: 12 x 90min. Torstaisin klo 14:45-16:15
Arvioitavaan esitykseen valmistetaan:
-  yhteensä 5 WS bändiä, kaikille valitaan 3 yhteistä sävellystä ( Hotel California, Gimme Some Loving, Route 66)?-  kaksi (2) sävellystä per vuosikymmen
-  2 vapaavalintaista sävellystä (tyylin puitteissa) ?-  ohjelmisto esitetään ulkoa ?Lukukauden aikana jokainen yhtyeen jäsen tuo yhden transkriptioimansa sävellyksen yhtyetunnille sekä harjoituttaa yhtyeen ko. sävellyksen esitykseen. Jokainen opiskelija valmistaa myös yhden suullisen esityksen valitsemastaan artistista ?ENSEMBLE: 2 op. ?- Opettaja-muusikko valitsee esitettävän taiteellisen kokonaisuuden - lyhytperiodi työskentelyä 20h kontaktia kaikkineen?- noin 4-5 harjoituskertaa (pidempiä)?- opettajamuusikko soittaa mahdollisesti yhtyeessä mukana ?- Esiintyminen Rhythm Blues Backhanalissa – Cafe Mascot 17.12.2019?

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

In order to get an approved grade, the student
- has participated in lessons as agreed
- has performed the given exercises and tasks according to the agreed schedule
- is able to work independently in repertoire practicing
- has learned performed repertoire well enough, for example, they can perform it by heart
- is able to act as a part of the ensemble and communicate their own musical views
- is able to use their instrumental characterization and the typical expressions of the selected repertoire
- can perform and communicate with the ensemble and the audience
- understands their role in the band and can communicate their own musical views
