Objective

The student is able to consider culture in a wider context; as a viewpoint, way of thinking and creating meanings. The student understands the significance of history in today’s world and is able to situate him/herself as part of the tradition and future of culture and arts. The student knows how to explain his/her own personal view on arts and culture. The student learns to follow current discussions and analyze the influence of societal changes within the field of culture. The student learns critical thinking and argumentation as well as data collection.

- The background of current cultural phenomena and main factors of cultural change in the society
- Culture as an operating environment
- Development and characteristics of the cityculture
- Everyday culture

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to see him-/herself as a part of the cultural and historical heritage and is able to acquire information of the phenomena’s background. In addition, the student is able to discuss his/her own art- and cultural opinion.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to examine the phenomena in the cultural field and is able to analyze their tradition and future. The student is able to gather information about various phenomena from different viewpoints. The student masters the basic concepts of the field and is able to apply them in describing his/her own viewpoints related to art and culture.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student analyzes well and from various viewpoints his/her own activity as part of the cultural phenomena and is able to place him/herself in the continuum within the cultural context. The student is able to analyze and critically evaluate information concerning various phenomena. The student is able to engage in multi-leveled dialogue based on literature, current observations and his/her own thinking.
