Objective

Students recognise the central characteristics and trends of European art, architecture and design history. Students form an understanding of how Western artisanal handicrafts developed into the art industry and industrial design. Students know the most important people of influence in Western and Finnish art industry and design. Students are able to consider art, architecture, art industry and design in relation to economic, societal and industrial development. Students can evaluate their own professional operations in relation to the history of art and design. Students have an understanding of the future prospects of design and related professional opportunities.

Content

The course focuses on the history of art, design and industrial design. Additionally, the course includes future perspectives and visions of design and creative development.
